Inside or Outside Mount Blinds? A Consultation Checklist

Before choosing a blind colour, decide what you want the finished window to do. Should the trim remain visible? Is evening privacy the priority? Do you want less light around the edges when you sleep? These questions help make a measurement appointment more useful, especially when different rooms need different solutions.

Noor Windows & Blinds offers roller shades, zebra blinds, honeycomb shades and other custom window coverings. The right mounting arrangement depends on the selected product and the actual opening. Use this checklist to prepare for a conversation about your windows, rather than treating a quick tape-measure reading as an order size.

What inside and outside mount mean

An inside mount places the covering within the window opening. It can keep decorative trim visible, but the chosen hardware needs enough usable depth and clearance. An outside mount positions the covering beyond the opening, on an appropriate mounting surface. The covering can extend past the edges of the opening.

Neither arrangement is automatically better for every room. Ask to see where the brackets, headrail and lowered fabric or slats would sit. A product photo shows a style; your own frame determines whether that style will fit in the same way.

Start with one room and one priority

Write down the main problem you want to solve in each room. For a bedroom, that might be light at the edges in the morning. For a living room, it might be preserving the appearance of the trim. For a home office, describe when glare reaches the screen and where the desk sits.

Try a short room-by-room note: “Bedroom: sleep during daylight; living room: keep trim visible; office: reduce afternoon glare.” This gives the consultation a clear starting point. It also avoids choosing one specification for the entire home simply because the windows look similar from across the room.

Show how the window operates

Take a straight-on photograph of each window and a closer photograph of the frame, handle and existing covering. During the appointment, demonstrate how you normally open and close the window. Mention anything that already catches, rubs or is difficult to reach.

Handles, cranks and locks can affect clearance. Nearby cupboards or doors may matter too. Ask the measurer to check the proposed covering in both its raised and lowered positions. Keep the area accessible for the visit, and point out furniture that will stay in place so the discussion reflects how you actually use the room.

Discuss the edges as well as the fabric

Blackout fabric and a completely dark room are different expectations. Inside-mounted coverings need room to move, so light can remain at the sides. An outside mount with suitable overlap can reduce those edge gaps, but the final result still depends on the whole installation.

Explain your expectations before selecting a fabric. Ask what light is likely to remain around the finished covering, and whether the proposed arrangement suits your room. Avoid assuming that the word “blackout” answers every question about edge light, fit and coverage.

Bring useful measurements, without making deductions

If you already have approximate dimensions, label them clearly as preliminary. Add a room name or number to each photograph so similar-looking windows do not get mixed up. Tell Noor whether the existing blinds will be removed and whether you are planning new trim, replacement windows or other work around the opening.

Ask which final measurements the selected product requires and who will confirm them before an order is placed. Do not apply a generic deduction found online: product hardware and ordering conventions vary. A useful appointment ends with a clear record of the proposed mount, product and any details still to be checked.

Questions to settle before ordering

For each window, confirm the proposed mount and the reason for it. Ask whether the covering will sit fully within the opening or project into the room. Review the expected light at the edges, operation of the window, access to the controls and how the finished covering will relate to existing curtains or trim.

Keep your final selections together with the room labels. If a choice changes after the measurement visit, ask whether the dimensions or mounting plan also need review. That simple step keeps a late fabric or product change from becoming a misunderstanding about the finished result.

Plan your Noor consultation

Explore Noor’s window-covering range before your appointment, then bring your room notes and photographs to the discussion. You do not need to choose a mount alone: the purpose of the consultation is to connect the look you want with a workable plan for each opening.

Contact Noor Windows & Blinds to discuss your windows and arrange the next step. If you plan to visit the Burnaby location, arrange an appointment first. Share your main priority—privacy, light control or the appearance of the frame—so the conversation starts with what matters most to you.
